Case Report

A case report of meningitis infection caused by Cryptococcus gattii

Haley D. Pollock, Steven J. Stanton, Ayman Rihawi.

Abstract
Background:
C. gattii infections are rare, as the first cases of C. gattii were reported in British Columbia, Canada in 1999, then few cases were reported in North America, Australia, and South America.

Case Description:
In this case, we describe a woman previously diagnosed with Cushing disease who developed a meningitis infection caused by C. gatti through travel. She presented with headache, bilateral papilledema, and fatigue.

Conclusion:
Currently, there are no published case reports involving infections with C. gattii that have been concomitantly linked with Cushing disease and hypogammaglobulinemia. More research is required to further correlate host immune status with disease acquisition.

Key words: Meningitis, Infection, Cryptococcus, Endocrine disorders
